Building for the future: harmonising pay and conditions at the Halifax

Summary

This article looks at the new integrated pay and grading structure and revised working arrangements introduced at the Halifax Building Society following the merger between the former Halifax and Leeds building societies on 1 August 1995. The new arrangements, which took effect on 1 February 1996, were agreed after detailed consultation and negotiation between the merged society, the Independent Union of Halifax Staff and the Leeds Permanent Building Society Staff Association.
