Summary

Globalisation and technological revolution are reshaping the way international businesses operate, and are beginning to erode national differences in how the employment relationship is organised in some transnational firms. Yet there are also many businesses with operations in more than one country that make a point of devolving considerable autonomy to managers of national subsidiaries and individual business units, giving them responsibility for the strategic thrust, as well as the operational direction, of human resource management.
