International: Areva European equality agreement

In an innovative move, Areva, the French nuclear power multinational, has signed a Europe-wide equal opportunities agreement with the European Metalworkers' Federation.


KEY POINTS

The pioneering November 2006 European agreement on equal opportunities between Areva and the EMF:

  • promotes and encourages equality in the workplace between men and women, dealing with recruitment, career development, training, pay and parenthood;
  • seeks to develop the integration and retention of people with disabilities, dealing with awareness and communication, recruitment, access to employment, training, adaptation of workstations and accessibility, and partnerships and external relations;
  • promotes best practices in these areas and facilitates their dissemination;
  • sets out indicators to measure progress;
  • will be implemented by local action plans at the level of individual countries and/or production units; and
  • is overseen by a monitoring committee made up of group HR management, the EMF and the Areva EWC.
