International: France Telecom signs worldwide labour rights agreement

France Telecom has concluded a global agreement on "fundamental labour rights" with Union Network International and its affiliated trade unions worldwide.

The France Telecom-Uni worldwide agreement on fundamental labour rights includes:

  • basic human/labour rights commitments by the company;
    •

  • detailed provisions on health and safety;
    •

  • guarantees on trade union membership, organisation and representation;
    •

  • provisions on staff mobility, training, working time organisation and fair/equal pay;
    •

  • measures aimed at minimising the effects of company restructuring on employment;
    •

  • encouragement for suppliers and subcontractors to adopt the same principles; and
    •

  • regular world-level meetings between management and unions to monitor implementation of the agreement.
