The Open University: developing a capacity for flexibility, learning and change

The Open University has introduced a new framework of generic capabilities, covering all staff, in response to changes brought about by a highly competitive market and reduced demand for its courses.

Founded more than 30 years ago, the Open University (OU) was the first learning institution in the UK to provide all of its courses remotely through the use of media such as television, video, conventional publications, web-based resources and email conferencing systems. Through its pioneering methods and high standards, it has gained a worldwide reputation for the quality and flexibility of its learning programmes.
