Case study: HR's key role in the ITV merger
HR played a critical role in the restructuring exercise surrounding the 2004 merger of Carlton and Granada to create a single ITV company for the whole of England and Wales, spearheading culture change, rebranding and leadership development initiatives.
Philippa Hird, group HR director at ITV plc remained confident of HR's role as business partner throughout the process. Hird states that 'the one time you never, ever have to worry about whether HR is at the top of the table is in the middle of a merger - because you're doing a lot of the work'.
