IRS is the official UK National Outreach Centre for the European Foundation for the Improvement of Living and Working Conditions.
The IRS team running the National Outreach Centre are responsible for the UK distribution of the research and information produced by the Foundation.
The Foundation aims to support the formulation of policies on living and working conditions through the provision of relevant data and knowledge.
The main target groups the Foundation seeks to influence are those involved in the implementation of European social policy and include:
- national governments, regional and local authorities working on social policy
- social partners: trade unions and employer organisations

Presenting 'Living and working in Europe' at the European Parliament
On 1-4 December 2008, Eurofound held an exhibition within the European Parliament in Brussels, under the sponsorship of MEPs Stephen Hughes and Ria Oomen-Ruijten. The exhibition drew on Eurofound research to give a picture of what it actually means to live and work in Europe today.

Perception of life satisfaction and quality of life remains high among Europeans:
Europeans are generally satisfied with their quality of life, but levels vary considerably across countries.

Staff departures
Samira Tetta, Contracts Officer in the Operational Support Unit, is leaving Eurofound at the end of the month to take up a post in the European Commission in the near future.
Matias Linder, Human Resources Officer, has left Eurofound to take up a post with the European Monitoring Centre for Drugs and Drug Addiction (EMCDDA) in Lisbon.
