Government produces guidance on illegal working
From 29 February 2008 employers may be fined up to £10,000 for each worker employed illegally. The Government has now produced summary guidance to help employers understand the law on illegal working from that date. The new guide includes information on how to avoid racial discrimination when preventing illegal working and how to establish an excuse against payment of a fine by checking and copying relevant documents before employment begins. Information on employing nationals from the European Economic Area is also included.
