HR professionals lack senior career opportunities

Structural barriers are holding back HR career prospects and limiting the strategic influence of the profession, according to new research from IRS.

The survey draws on the experience of senior HR practitioners to look at the opportunities and obstacles facing the profession.

Some 49% of respondents believe that HR is not viewed as important enough by their organisation, while 27% think the profession is not viewed with enough prestige by the business world.

Moreover 44% report having experienced barriers to career progression, most commonly because of a lack of senior HR opportunities.
