Introducing the Independent Safeguarding Authority Scheme
The Department for Children, Schools and Families is consulting on the implementation of the Independent Safeguarding Authority Scheme under the Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups Act 2006. The closing date for responses is 20 February 2008.
The Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups Act 2006 provides a legislative framework for a single list of people banned from working with children and vulnerable adults, which is expected to be introduced in autumn 2008. The new list will integrate List 99 (for teaching); the Protection of Children Act lists (for childcare); and the Protection of Vulnerable Adults list.
The Independent Safeguarding Authority will be the non-governmental unit in charge of administering the new centralised list.
