New competency case studies published

IRS journal Competency & Emotional Intelligence presents its regular round-up of case studies on current competency practice across a range of organisations. All case studies are authored by John Warner.

  • Britannia Building Society: recruiting for attitude first   The Britannia Building Society's competency framework, which identifies anticipated staff behaviours to support organisational values, represents a key element in its revised recruitment practices.

  • The Open University: developing a capacity for flexibility, learning and change   The OU has introduced a new framework of generic competencies covering all staff in response to a highly competitive market in which it no longer enjoys the levels of demand of 10 years ago.

  • Skills for Justice: providing support for voluntary sector standards   Skills for Justice (formed from the merger of three former National Training Organisations) uses a set of national occupational standards that form a competency framework throughout the justice sector.

  • Chugai Pharma Europe: a new emphasis for pharmaceuticals   Chugai Pharma's competency framework provides 'transparent' processes to support promotion decisions and succession plans.

  • Avenues Trust: supporting performance-related assessment   Avenues Trust introduced competency-based assessments of staff performance to support its performance-related pay structure.
