New model policy and letters on the right to request time off for study or training
A model policy and accompanying letters on the right to request time off for study or training have been added to the HR & Compliance Centre policies and documents section, in advance of the legislation coming into effect on 6 April 2010. The accompanying letters include a letter that can be circulated to employees explaining the new right.
- Policy on the right to request time off for study or training Use this model policy to communicate your organisation’s approach to time off work for study or training and set out the law that gives certain employees the right to request time off work for study or training.
- Letter explaining the right to request time off for study or training Use this model letter to make employees aware of the statutory right to request time off for study or training, and to inform them of their rights and responsibilities in respect of such requests.
- Letter responding to an employee’s request for time off for study or training Use this model letter to arrange a meeting with an employee to discuss his or her request for time off for study or training.
- Letter agreeing to an employee’s request for time off for study or training Use this model letter to inform an employee that his or her request for time off work for study or training has been granted.
- Letter refusing an employee's request for time off for study or training Use this model letter to inform an employee that his or her request for time off for study or training has been refused, the business ground(s) for the refusal, the reasons why the ground(s) applies/apply in the particular circumstances, and the employee's right to appeal.
