Pension provisions in age legislation delayed

The Government has announced that the implementation of the pension provisions in the age discrimination legislation is to be delayed by two months until 1 December 2006.

The pension provisions form Sch. 2 of the Employment Equality (Age) Regulations 2006. Their implementation has been put back in response to employers' concerns that, following significant activity in the pensions sector earlier this year, they have had insufficient time to adjust to the new rules. The delay will also permit a short informal consultation period to assess whether any amendments to Sch. 2 are necessary.

The UK Government has until the beginning of December to introduce legislation outlawing age discrimination in employment and vocational training. The remaining provisions of the Age Regulations are still set to come into force on 1 October.
