Health and safety: Deal with an employee's request for an eye and eyesight test
When to use this health and safety flowchart
Use this health and safety flowchart to manage the legal and practical issues that arise when you receive a request from an employee or someone who is to become an employee for an eye and eyesight test.
Eligible employees who use display screen equipment at work are, on request, entitled to be provided with an appropriate eye and eyesight test. The Health and Safety (Display Screen Equipment) Regulations 1992 oblige employers to pay for such tests and, where necessary, for the basic cost of optical appliances.
Key steps
- Arrange an eye and eyesight test as soon as practicable
- Pay for the test and basic cost of special corrective appliances
- Ensure that the individual is provided with further eye and eyesight tests at regular intervals
