Human Rights Act 1998 comes into force
Implementation date: 2 October 2000
The Act imposes a duty on tribunals and courts
to interpret all existing legislation in such a way as is compatible with the
European Convention on Human Rights, insofar as it is practicable to do so.
Courts and tribunals must also take account of any judgment, decision,
declaration or opinion of the European Commission and the European Court of
Human Rights that may be relevant. The Act can be viewed on the OPSI website.
