Local Government Pension Scheme (Amendment) (No 2) Regulations 2004 come into force
Implementation date: 1 April 2005
To be revoked: (see note in bold below). The
Regulations make amendments to the Local Government Pension Scheme. Amendments
to the Scheme include the scrapping of the 85-year rule, whereby a member who
takes early retirement can claim full pensions benefits if their combined age
and service amount to 85 years or more. The earliest age at which benefits can
be paid from the Scheme also increases from 50 to 55. The Government has
announced that it plans to revoke these Regulations
. The Regulations can be viewed
on the OPSI website.
