Paid leave for victims of domestic abuse in Northern Ireland
Implementation date: To be confirmed
The Domestic Abuse (Safe Leave) Act (Northern Ireland) 2022, which received Royal Assent on 12 May 2022, requires regulations to be made to introduce at least 10 days of "safe leave", per leave year, for employees who are experiencing domestic abuse.
The purpose of the leave is to enable employees to deal with issues related to the abuse, such as obtaining legal advice, finding accommodation and protecting family members.
A consultation on how to implement the provisions of the Act closed on 27 September 2024.
