In which redundancy situations will it not be necessary to determine a redundancy selection pool?

It will not be necessary to determine a redundancy selection pool where only one job role is redundant, and there is only one employee carrying out that role. However, this will only be the case where the role is unique in the business. If there are other roles that are similar, or that require similar skills and qualifications, the employer should consider whether the employees in those roles should be included in a pool for selection.

A redundancy selection pool may not be necessary where an employer is closing part of its business, for example a particular department or function, and all posts within that part are redundant. However, the employer should consider whether or not it may be appropriate to include in a redundancy pool employees from other areas of the business who carry out similar roles.

There is no requirement for a selection pool where an employer closes its whole business, with the result that all employees are redundant (although there may be a requirement for a pool where an employer closes just one of its sites).
