Paternity bereavement leave

Implementation date: To be confirmed

The Paternity Leave (Bereavement) Act 2024 received Royal Assent on 24 May 2024. The Act will allow an employee to take paternity leave as a day-one right if the mother, or a person with whom a child is placed or expected to be placed for adoption, dies.

Regulations are required to set out further detail of the right and to bring the Act into force.

The Act was supported by the Labour Party as it passed through Parliament under the previous Conservative Government, however the Labour Government has not yet announced a timetable for bringing the measures into force.
