Callaghan warns LAs about further enforcement slips

HSC chair Bill Callaghan has once again warned local authorities (LAs) that urgent action is needed to bolster their enforcement of health and safety and that the HSC will intervene where LAs fail to deliver an acceptable performance.

Two new reports1 from the Health and Safety Executive Local Authority Enforcement Liaison Committee (HELA) show a "worrying" decline in resources allocated nationally to health and safety enforcement by LAs and a reduction in inspection and enforcement activity.
