A US study survey of HR practitioners shortly before this year's hurricane strikes on the Gulf Coast found that 85% of US businesses had disaster preparation plans in place, and that in 75% of cases HR had played a role in formulating them.
Almost one-third (31%) of US employers had formal policies in place to assist employees affected by an emergency or disaster, through employee assistance programmes, additional paid or unpaid leave, advances of pay, loans or temporary housing. |
