EU Commission: Deteriorating economic situation slows employment growth
The European Commission’s latest quarterly review of the EU labour market, published in September 2008, finds that overall performance has “moderated” following the recent slowdown in economic activity, but that employment continues to increase for now.
According to the Quarterly EU Labour Market Review (PDF format, 196K) (on the commission's website), employment growth across the EU slowed in the second quarter of 2008, easing in most large member states (most notably Spain) and with a strong contraction in the construction sector.
