EU: Employment situation continues to deteriorate
Unemployment across the EU has increased by one-third over the past year, with young people particularly hard hit, according to the European Commission's summer 2009 Quarterly EU Labour Market Review (PDF format, 386K) (on the Europa website), published in July.
The report states that the recession in the EU continued to worsen noticeably in the first quarter of 2009, having already deepened sharply in the last quarter of 2008.
