France: Most new EU migrants work in agriculture
The French government has carried out the first evaluation of the limited labour market access granted to migrants from the eight central and eastern European states that acceded to the EU in 2004 (the Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, the Slovak Republic and Slovenia). Since 1 May 2006, they have been able to apply for permits to work in 62 trades in sectors experiencing recruitment difficulties, which include construction, hotels, cafés and restaurants, agriculture and retail.
