Ireland: Strikes rise while earnings fall

Average earnings fell by 0.8% in 2009 in Ireland, and the level of industrial action was 11 time higher than the annual average over 2001 to 2008, according to data released by the Central Statistics Office (CSO) in April 2010.

According to preliminary data from the CSO, average weekly earnings stood at €691.27 in the third quarter of 2009, a fall of 0.8% from the same quarter of 2008.
