Last-minute deal averts BA strike

On 29 January 2007, after some 120 hours of negotiations, a new collective agreement for British Airways (BA) cabin crew was reached, leading the TGWU trade union to call off at the last minute a planned two-day strike, as well as two potential 72-hour strikes in February. The two year agreement provides for:

  • a 4.6% pay rise in the first year;
  • an inflation-rate rise in the second year; and
  • additional pay rises for staff on the lowest pay grades, to remove the existing "two-tier" wage structure.
