Last-minute deal averts BA strike
On 29 January 2007, after some 120 hours of
negotiations, a new collective agreement for British Airways (BA) cabin crew was
reached, leading the TGWU trade union to call off at the last minute a planned
two-day strike, as well as two potential 72-hour strikes in February. The two
year agreement provides for:
a 4.6% pay rise in the first year;
an inflation-rate rise in the second year;
and
additional pay rises for staff on the lowest pay
grades, to remove the existing "two-tier" wage structure.
