Older people stay in work for personal and financial reasons

Financial necessity is the most important reason why older people remain in work, finds new research published by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP)*. However, personal and practical reasons, such as self-esteem, job satisfaction, providing for self and family, social contact, maintaining good health and providing a routine, are also important.

Exploring the factors influencing the labour market participation of workers aged between 50 and 69, the research is based on 71 in-depth face-to-face interviews and six focus groups.
