Retail-sector pay: settlements up in line with minimum wage

In spite of a poor trading climate, retail pay settlements have risen once again, as the national minimum wage uplift influences awards.

- Although the median pay award in the retail sector over the past year has increased to 2.5%, from 2.2% last year, the proportion of pay freezes has also risen, accounting for 12% of pay deals in the 2011/12 wage round.
