Workloads bigger risk than drugs

Excessive workloads and work-related stress may have a greater impact on safety and performance at work than drug misuse among employees, finds an independent inquiry into drug testing at work1.

Alcohol is "probably" a greater cause for concern in the workplace than illicit drugs, the inquiry suggests, adding that very few employees produce positive results when tested for drug misuse.

The report of the inquiry - which was sponsored by the Joseph Rowntree Foundation and DrugScope - finds few legal or business arguments to support drug testing.
