The Bribery Act 2010 introduced criminal offences where a commercial organisation or an individual is involved in bribery. These include offering, promising or giving a bribe, and corporate failure to prevent bribery.
The threat of bribery to which an organisation is exposed will depend on the nature of work that the organisation does, as well as factors such as country risk, transaction risk and risks associated with internal processes, structures and practices.
Employers should take steps to assess the risk of bribery to their organisation and ensure that individuals working for, or on behalf of, the organisation are aware of their legal obligations when conducting business.
