The facts
Hendrick Geels, a Dutch national living in Aix-les-Bains in France, was appointed by Mulox, a company incorporated under English law with a registered office in London, as international marketing director from 1 November 1988. He used his home as an office and base of operations, making frequent trips to Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands and Scandinavia.
