On 8.5.77, the respondents announced at a meeting that due to losses on their business, they intended to eliminate night trunking work as of 13.5.77. This affected five drivers who were offered alternative employment, with a substantial reduction in earnings, as tramp drivers during the day. These offers were rejected and the dismissals took effect on 13 May.
