Extension of time limits for bringing employment tribunal claims

Implementation date: 1 October 2026

The Employment Rights Act 2025 extends the time limit for bringing an employment tribunal claim to six months. 

The time limit for most claims is currently three months. The change will apply to all employment tribunal claims, including unfair dismissal and discrimination.

This measure is confirmed to take effect for acts allegedly done on or after 1 October 2026, with Regulations having been published confirming the transitional provisions for the increase in tribunal time limits for various types of claim.
