5% pay award for film and television freelancers

A union-recommended settlement covering an estimated 20,000
freelancers working in the film and television industry has resulted in a 5%
basic pay rise. The deal, negotiated between the Producers Alliance for Cinema
and Television (PACT) and the Broadcasting, Entertainment, Cinematographic and
Theatre Union (BECTU), also includes:
additional help for lower-graded staff by, for the
first time, setting rates for trainees, call persons and runners;
an employer contribution to freelancers' pensions;
improved accident and medical insurance cover when
working abroad; and
clearer
procedures for contract paperwork.
