Supermarket chain Asda has awarded its 125,940 retail colleagues a basic pay increase of 2.5%, effective from 1 April 2006. The basic rate for an adult checkout operator or sales assistant in a London store has now risen to £6.34 an hour, while daytime sales assistants based in provincial stores now receive £5.58 an hour.
