Austria: Age-related unemployment insurance exemption discriminates against men

Austria's highest court, the supreme administrative court (Verwaltungsgerichtshof), recently ruled that exempting women from unemployment insurance contributions at the age of 56 and men at the age of 58 discriminates against men and contravenes EU anti-discrimination legislation.

The case relates to a measure introduced as part of the 2003 state budget.
