Belgium: Loss of 1,400 jobs at Opel Antwerp

Management at the Opel car plant at Antwerp announced in mid-April that 1,400 employees out of 4,800 will lose their jobs during 2007.

The workforce reduction results from a decision by Opel’s owner, US-based General Motors, to cut production at Antwerp to 120,000 vehicles a year from 230,000 in 2006.
