Builders' rates rise by 4%

An agreement between the Transport and General Workers' Union (TGWU) and the Federation of Master Builders (FMB) has resulted in increases of 4% in the basic hourly rate of building craft workers with a Scottish/National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) level 3, taking it from £9.67 to £10.06, with effect from 11 June 2007. The TGWU and the FMB respectively represent employees and employers on the Building and Allied Trades Joint Industrial Council (BATJIC), the umbrella body responsible for negotiating the terms and conditions applicable to this section of the construction industry.
