Building brick industry: rates rise by 4%

A new two-stage deal has been agreed between the GMB, the Transport and General Workers' Union and the British Ceramic Confederation, covering an estimated 6,000 workers whose terms and conditions are set by the National Joint Council for the Building Brick and Allied Industries. The first stage of the agreement, effective from 1 March 2005, increases national basic and individual domestic rates by 4%, giving a new national basic hourly rate of £5.9023 an hour.
