Building industry: Rates rise by up to 4.7%

An agreement between the Transport and General Workers' Union (TGWU) and the Federation of Master Builders (FMB) has resulted in increases of 4.5% in the basic hourly pay rate of building craft workers with a Scottish/National Vocational (level 3) qualification, taking it from £9.25 to £9.67, with effect from 12 June 2006. The TGWU and the FMB respectively represent employees and employers on the Building and Allied Trades Joint Industrial Council (BATJIC), the umbrella body responsible for negotiating the terms and conditions applicable to this part of the construction industry.

Those with an S/NVQ level 2 qualification see their basic hourly rate improve from £7.95 to £8.32, a rise of 4.6%.
