Crisis in employers' liability insurance forces health and safety management into the limelight
Businesses across the UK are being urged to examine their health, safety and risk management procedures amid a growing crisis in the Employers' Liability (EL) insurance market.
The British Insurance Brokers' Association (BIBA) has identified dozens of businesses that have either closed down or are continuing to trade illegally and uninsured after being unable to secure EL cover; BIBA believes thousands more are under threat as they come to renew their policies. Businesses affected include scaffolders, metal fabricators, coach companies, private mines, children's nurseries, haulage companies, consulting engineers, roofing contractors and couriers.
