Deadline looms for bridging the LGPS funding gap
A sense of urgency has been injected into the saga surrounding the future of the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS) as the deadline looms for making changes to the scheme from April 2006. The deadline needs to be met if employers and council tax payers are not to be hit with the estimated £400 million bill for the decision by the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister (ODPM) to revoke changes that were due to take effect from April 2005 (See LGPS sinks further into deficit ).
