Directive would lower noise limits

A proposed noise Directive, currently under negotiation in the European Union, will cut by more than half the sound pressure levels that are deemed to be without risk to workers' health.

The proposal will replace the 1986 noise Directive (86/188/EEC), which was implemented in the UK by the Noise at Work Regulations 1989.
