The government has confirmed it will table an amendment to the Employment Rights Bill to double the maximum protective award from 90 to 180 days' pay where an employer fails to comply with collective redundancy obligations, for example, in fire and rehire situations.
An amendment paper on the Employment Rights Bill has been published by the House of Commons, including a new clause extending the limitation for bringing a tribunal claim from three months to six.
The backlog of employment tribunal cases continues to grow, with more than 50,000 cases awaiting a hearing or decision at the end of last year, figures show.
