EOC funding cut

The Equal Opportunities Commission (EOC) has had its budget cut by £750,000, although the Department of Trade and Industry has said that the EOC will receive £500,000 specifically for work on the new gender duty due to come into force next year.

The cut in funding means that the commission has had to scrap plans to carry out the "equality check" of employers, as recommended in the recent Women and Work Commission's report (Commission rejects mandatory equal pay reviews).
