EU: Commission assesses implementation of gender equality Directive
Seven years after its adoption, the European Commission has examined the implementation of a 2002 EU Directive on gender equality, concluding that, despite problems in national transposition, the Directive has helped tackle discrimination at work.
Directive 2002/73/EC on the implementation of the principle of equal treatment for men and women in access to employment, vocational training, promotion and working conditions, adopted in September 2002, amended an original 1976 Directive (76/207/EEC, now consolidated in Directive 2006/54/EC).
