The European Commission consulted the EU-level social partners during summer 2009 over a revision of the 2004 EU health and safety Directive on electromagnetic fields, which has not yet been implemented.

Directive 2004/40/EC on the minimum health and safety requirements regarding the exposure of workers to the risks arising from physical agents (electromagnetic fields) was adopted in April 2004 and was due to come into effect in April 2008.
