EU: Commission issues work programme
On 31 March 2010, the new European Commission that came to office in February published its work programme for the remainder of the year. In the employment and social field, highlights include action on two of the most contentious issues of recent years: revision of the Working Time Directive and implementation of the Posted Workers Directive.
An earlier Commission proposal to revise the Working Time Directive (2003/88/EC) failed in April 2009, with the European Parliament and the Council of the EU unable to agree on the amendments.
