EU: Commission plans further action on gender pay gap

The European Commission announced further action in March 2010 to tackle the gender pay gap, including possible legislative measures.

The gender pay gap - the average difference in gross hourly earnings between women and men - stood at 18% across the EU in 2008, according to Eurostat figures, despite the existence of long-standing equal pay legislation at European and national levels.
