EU: Commission proposes Directive on medical sharps
The European Commission issued on 26 October 2009 a draft Directive to implement a recent agreement signed by EU-level social partners in the hospitals and healthcare sector, aimed at preventing injuries caused by "medical sharps", such as needles.
In July 2009, the European Hospital and Healthcare Employers' Association (Hospeem) and the European Federation of Public Service Unions (EPSU) signed a European framework agreement on "preventing sharps injuries" in the hospitals and healthcare sector.
